Mennonite Mutual Aid Society (MMAS) was formed in 1866 by four Mennonite churches in Allen, Hancock, Hardin and Putnam counties of Ohio to assist people in need after a catastrophic loss. In 1907, MMAS was incorporated and started operating under the Ohio Revised Code 3939 as an assessment company. In 2013, MMAS became affiliated with Mennonite Mutual Insurance Company of Orrville, Ohio. As a result of the affiliation, MMAS has transitioned from a post-assessment company (where policyholders were invoiced for their previous 12 months of insurance coverage on September 1st) to an advanced premium collection (where policyholders are invoiced in advance -per a unique renewal date – for their next 12 months of insurance coverage).
